Responsibility:
Health
care staff at the Global Youth Village serve a vital function. It is
only after a safe, healthy, and secure environment is created, that
a young person can take full advantage of what Village life has to offer.
. The Health Care staff member, in addition to his or her primary health
care role, fulfills one or more of various programmatic, administrative
or support roles listed under the "Program Specialist Options"
section of this website. Applicants for these "Program
Specialist" roles should have the knowledge required to plan
and deliver activities within his or her chosen specialty area, and
be able to readily teach their skill to a varied age group (13-18 year
olds). Professional teaching experience is preferred but not required.
Health
Care Coordinator: Provide medical services and first aid within
established protocols and standing orders of allopathic and homeopathic
physicians. Other responsibilities include health screening, risk management,
first aid training to staff, and transporting people to the physician
or hospital as needed. Must be a registered nurse, eligible for licensure
in Virginia. CPR and first aid certified, and a valid drivers license.
Knowledge of homeopathy and tropical diseases helpful but not necessary.
Health Care Manager: Work under
the guidance of the Health Care Coordinator to provide basic health
care services. Duties include: assisting the nurse with health screenings
and general first aid, assisting in care of ill staff or participants,
escorting people to physicians for treatment, stocking first aid kits,
administering some routine medications. Must be 21 years of age or older,
with a valid U.S. driver's license. First aid and CPR certification
is also required.
