Youth Services & Social Media Coordinator

Work closely with Outreach Coordinator and Director running the computer lab. Update the GYV blog daily. Facilitate an youth team working on content for the GYV blog.   Photo and video documentation for web site / blog and PR use.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated skill and ability with computers, web 2.0 technology, Flickr, blogging
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, and manage numerous details for large groups of people.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively with others based on knowledge of effective cross-cultural relations.
  • Ability to establish works priorities, respond to unanticipated needs, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a team, ability to manage others.
  • Ability to network and motivate youths to bring forth their talents and skills.
  • Video and/or photo documentation and editing experience preferred but not required
  • Desire and ability to work in a rural, camp setting.
  • Fluent in English.
  • High school graduate with at least two-year’s work or university experience.
  • Minimum age, 20 years old.
  • Prefer an alumni of GYV, but not required. At minimum, should have some previous camp experience.
  • Ability and availability to integrate fully into the Global Youth Village (not a suitable role for a part time, local intern or volunteer)

Responsible to: Outreach Coordinator

Specific Responsibilities:

  1. Coordinate the computer lab usage.
  2. Coordinate daily blogging activities, working with youth and Outreach Coordinator to post blogs about daily events, lessons learned etc. Includes Flickr photo uploads.
  3. Facilitate a youth Action Team project related to the GYV blog
  4. Assist with photo-documentation and creation of final “slide” show
  5. Assist with videotaping, possibly editing and uploading video blogs weekly.
  6. Assist in monitoring weekly phone calls home.
  7. Assist Outreach Coordinator with general office tasks as needed. (i.e. – preparing alumni packets for Recognition Dinner, etc.)
  8. Evaluate programming systems at end of season.

Secondary Duties (to be determined, depending on the staff person’s  interests and skills):

  • Teach occasional afternoon activities or electives and/or fulfill some other programmatic role of interest
  • Evening Programs – help w/ select evening and weekend events (design / deliver)
  • Fulfill other support functions as outlined in the general job description, applicable to all staff (i.e. being part of a meal clean-up team once a day, helping set up and break down facility, etc.)
  • Serve as a Back-up counselor
  • Driver (for church outings, local airport pick ups, special shopping needs, etc.  (Must be at least 21 years old, with valid US drivers license and a good record.)

Essential Functions:

  1. Ability to effectively communicate with youths and staff, and to provide necessary instruction.
  2. Ability to communicate to staff and youths the safety regulations and emergency procedures in case of an all-camp emergency.
  3. Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to area.
  4. Cognitive and communication abilities to manage large, complex events.
  5. Ability to operate essential office equipment needed to carry out responsibilities (i.e. telephone, computer, photocopy machine).

Salary: This is a volunteer internship. Housing and meals provided.
